As promised, here are the first models that I have finished painting. Aside from the crappy prime job with GW's ultra thick Chaos Black spray primer, I think these turned out okay, considering my amateur painter status.
The one dilemma that I am wrestling with are the shoulder guards. There are currently no red tactical arrows that I'm happy with. The ones that I ordered from Greenfield Games are way too bright, in my opinion and I had some trouble free painting them. For the time being, I added the white tactical decals that GW produces, but I'm not completely sold on those either (even if they are easy to work with). I may order the metal shoulder guards from GW and fill the recesses in with green stuff and then paint them red.
Tactical Squad 1 is now designated as Squad Ramos.
If you have trouble free-handing then perhaps using the white ones and then painting over them with your chosen shade of red would be preferable. That way all you have to do is keep inside the lines but they will still have that great hand-painted look...
ReplyDeleteVery clean looking models! What colors did you use? Regal blue base or Mordian blue? My fist have Mordian Blue w/ Ultramarine Blue…both colors drybrushed. I used Mecharite red on the fists with a Badab Black wash. So simple!
ReplyDeleteWhat are you going to do with the bases (if at all?)? I'm always shocked to see that folks do bases last…I prefer to do them first to avoid ruining my model's feet…but maybe I over worry about that!
Thanks for the suggestion on the tactical arrows, I'll give that a try - it would be cheaper than ordering the GW ones.
ReplyDeletecawshis - I used a 50/50 mix of Necron Abyss and Regal Blue for the base. Then a mixed wash of Badab Black, Asurmen Blue and Devlan Mud. The highlight was Regal Blue, followed by a lighter Regal Blue. Mechrite Red base with same wash and Blood Red highlight.
Bases are still undecided. I don't know if I want to go winter or not.
