Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay - revamped??

The Hogs of War (link to the left) is reporting a new version of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. As a DnD player of old (early 80's), I'm very curious to see what Fantasy Flight Games is going to do with this. I've seen the most recent version published by Black Library or Green Ronin or whoever it was, but I didn't care for it. There were too many 'mundane' careers for my taste. When I hear of Fantasy RPG, I think of warriors, wizards and heroes of legend. Not a Messenger or Barmaid. I've always been a fan of roleplaying games and even tried to get a group together for some new DnD 4E, but couldn't generate any interest.

The new version of WHFRP, is peaking my interest. I own a couple of Fantasy Flight games and I've always been impressed with their products. I'll definitely check this one out. It would be a great way to put all of those fantasy models to use.

Quickie High Elf Update

I finished assembling the two mages and more than half way done putting together the Silver Helms. Just need to attach the arms and shields (which I may do last). But they'll at least be ready for use by the weekend. I'm hoping to at least start painting the archers by this weekend.

High Elf List - 1k

Okay, Here's my working list right now. I came up with this one on my lunch hour in my car. I have to re-acquiant myself with the WFB rule set, which I'll be doing during the whole modelling process. Feedback appreciated.

Mage - lvl 2, elven steed
Mage - lvl 2, dispel scroll (x2)
15 Spearmen - full cmd
10 Archers - light armor
10 Swordmasters of Hoeth - full cmd
5 Silver Helms - shields
1 RBT

So far, the Spearmen, Swordmasters, RBT, and Archers are assembled. I've got to get the two heroes built as well as the Silverhelms. For those of you who are wondering - my High Elves were a project that I had started some time ago, but got distracted and let them fall by the way side. The nice thing about returning to this army is that I have enough boxed stuff to keep this army growing for the next year or so.

Warhammer Fantasy - High Elves

I'm feeling ambitious and in an effort to revitalize my love for Warhammer Fantasy, I'm returning to the High Elf army that I have neglected for far too long. Here's the ambitious part - I'm going to work on this project alongside the Crimson Fists army that I've been devoting my time to.

I came up with a 1,500 pt list that is pretty much assembled and needs to be painted, so that will be my starting point. I'll post the list for feedback later. So check back, there will be more Crimson Fists AND High Elf material to come.

New Project - High Elves Revisited

Some time ago (last year), I had been working on a High Elf army for Warhammer Fantasy. I had many of the models built, but not painted. I had even played a game with them with John at Plastic Legions. But alas, I got side tracked with other things (life, new job, school, wife, kids, bills, families,......). So I packed the models up and put them away.

Well now, I'd like to step back into fantasy on at least a small scale and so I've decided that going back to my High Elves would be the quickest way. I've created a 1,000 point list and have pretty much every model needed for that list. So, I'll take up the brush and get the army painted soon (I've got three weeks left of school...so do the kids).

Pulling out the High Elves will also serve another purpose - prevent me from purchasing more stuff from GW. I've got plenty to do at home. I don't need to be spending a ton of cash on projects that I may never start. At least until I'm done with the current.

Here's the list for review:
  • Noble on barded steed w/ heavy armour, shield, Sword of Might

  • Mage (lvl2) with Dispel Scroll x2

  • 15 Spearmen with full command

  • 10 Spearmen with full command

  • 10 Archers

  • 10 Archers

  • 5 Silver Helms

  • 1 Repeater Bolt Thrower

Suggestions and Comments welcome.

Huh? New Race????

Bell of Lost Souls is reporting the possibility of a new race in Warhammer? Wouldn't that be cool? I for one hope that this rumor becomes fact. I hope it's a full blown race with it's own codex/army book. Not some obscure servant race like the Kroot or that other alien species in the Tau Codex. Which ever game system carries, I think this is exactly what Fantasy and 40k need. A breath of fresh air. A whole new army and not just different ways to play the old ones. Don't get me wrong, the existing ones are great. But something new and different? Nice.

Personally, I hope it's a 40k race. I think introducing a new race into that system is easier. It's a big universe. Introducing it into the Olde World of the Fantasy system would be tough, as we're dealing with a single world. But we'll see if it becomes a reality.

Black Scorpion Miniatures

I found this miniature website online and they've got some sweet looking models. You can see them by clicking here. I've got my eye on the pirate models. I think I'll order a few of those...just to see.

Of Space Marines and Lizardmen...

It was a rough weekend. All three kids were sick with flu and fever, so I spent my entire weekend checking temperatures, spooning Children's Motrin and pouring chicken soup. But the good news is...I got to go back to work today to get some rest.

I did spend the wee, wee hours of the morning painting and assembling. I started putting together my lizardmen models. This being my timid return to fantasy after being absent for some time (except for that High Elf game against, my buddy John last year), I didn't want to pour through a book and structure a list. So I just dove right in and starting building stuff and was going for volume. I got ten skinks built then called it a night on Saturday. Yesterday I sat down to assemble my Kroxigors foolishly thinking that it would be a snap, everything dry fit nicely - except for the arms. What a pain in the ass. That took the whole day. That's why I hate working with metal models.

On to the Crimson Fists. I set to work painting my space marines and I have found the new paint instructions much easier and quicker. I abandoned the metal shoulder guard concept for the most part. Although I still have a few left, I thought that I'd try the decals. My first two attempts were pretty aggravating. I was using Microsol, but still not getting the result that I wanted. I finally decided to find a nice pair of sharp Fiskar scissors and trimmed along the line as close as humanly possible. This seemed to help matters a great deal. I took some pics of the models, but I forgot the memory card at home, so I'll post 'em tonight.

Oh, and I altered the army 1k list a bit in order to fit a dreadnought into the first phase of the project.

I did it

Okay, I did it. I broke down and got sucked into it like a wounded Guardsman in the Eye of Terror. I picked up a Lizardmen Battalion and a Stegadon. I'm sorry, but the models are just too awesome. But one of my lenten promises is to stay on task. So I will continue to work on my Crimson Fists. I'll just allocate a day for each project. I need to train myself to spend more time on each army. Maybe I can do commissions part time for extra cash.

Anyway, here's what I've got so far:

1 Skink Priest (found it in one of my drawers)
20 Saurus Warriors
12 Skinks
8 Cold One Cavalry
10 Temple Guard
2 Kroxigors (the new one are huge)
1 Stegadon

What should I get next? I really want that Kro'gar model. That Carnosaur rocks. But I think that I can use more skinks and a maybe a Mage-Priest.
