Starship Trooper Friday

The Starship Trooper films were some of the worst sci fi material ever (at least 2 and 3 were). The first film was based on Robert A. Heinlen's classic so I will cut that one some slack. BUT, I can't help but place it among the most favorite sci fi movies ever made. C'mon, Bugs vs. Humans. Hmmm, sound familiar.

Anyway, here's a shot of one of the hotties from the less famous Starship Troopers 2: Heroes of the Federation. Kelly Carlson - ooh baby!

Brother Captain

I finished my Captain today. I noticed that this model doesn't have the braids draped across his armor like other commanders, but....

Sorry about the lousy lighting. I'll post nicer ones when I can get some shots outside. But on the up side, things are coming along, I've got four more marines from Squad Antheo half done. I should get half done by Friday. Then that would leave me with 10 more marines and a Predator to paint.

Brother Sgt Antheo - Done.

I did meet my second goal to at least start painting the models by Friday. I spent some time going back and forth on color and wash combinations on this one, so it took me longer to figure it out. Except for some highlighting (a skill that I'm still trying to develop), the first model is completed. Now that I know the colors, I can move a bit faster - Next goal is to have AT LEAST half the squad finished by next Friday (what can I say? I'm a very busy person).

I decided to keep it simple, in order to stay with the concept that at this point, the Crimson Fists are pretty spartan in their armor and equipment due to the heavy losses incurred on Rynn's World.

Dog Friday

The hot Emmanuelle Vaugier. A short stint on Andromeda and most recently on the cheesy Sci Fi picture, Ceberus. It was a terrible movie, but man did she make it bearable.. Ooh, baby.

Review - Heart of Rage

I picked up Black Library's first 40k Audiobook, Heart of Rage by James Swallow. While it wasn't about my favorite chapter, it was a great story nontheless. It's a 'short story' about an encounter between the Blood Angels and a dormant Tyranid space hulk. Very 'Aliens'-esque if you like that sort of thing. Plenty of background music, sound effects and bolter fire in the background. Cool stuff.

My guess is with the re-release of Space Hulk just a couple of months away, the boys in marketing felt that it was the perfect time for the release of this CD.

Rubio's 500

My first 500 points are built and only 3 days behind schedule. I finished building the 5-man squad last night. Now they're ready for priming. Again, I'm starting the force with:

Captain
10-man Tac Squad
5-man Tac Squad
Predator w/ autocannon, heavy bolters.

The models were pretty standard with no ultra special conversions. I did a little kit bashing with Command Squad, Devastator Squad and Tactical Squad kits. Man, I love plastic models. I sprinkled a little Black Templar iconography to represent the alliance between the two chapters during the Declates Crusade. Here's the reference over at GW: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=900001&pIndex=0&aId=2300006&start=1

My next goal is to start actually putting paint on the models by the end of the week (Friday night).

Did I say Saturday....?

Well, I meant Monday. As you can see, I missed my first deadline. But in my defense, my oldest daughter had a softball tournament all weekend and it was my youngest daughter's birthday, so I had a lot on my plate.

I sat down (finally) about 10pm last night and finished building the Predator (I'll post pics soon). I assembled Sgt Haleos and partially assembled the other four marines in the squad. I'll get those done tonight, which will put me two days off my mark. the next step will be to get them prime and start painting.

Roswell Friday

I completely forgot that one of my favorite Hotties does qualify for a SciFi Friday post. The smokin' hot Katherine Heigl played Isabel Evans on 'Roswell' back in '99.
I watched every episode. I'm ashamed of myself for forgetting that.

On the Crimson Fist side of the blog - I finished assembling my captain as well as Squad Antheo. Tonight I'll get the Predator done (or at least half done) and then Haleos, my 5-man Tactical Squad.

Quick Update - Crimson Fists v2

I stuck around after the softball meeting a little too long last night, having a beer with some of my fellow coaches. That side trek didn't get me home until about 11:30. But, I was disciplined enough to stay sober long enough to get some stuff done. I assembled half of Squad Antheo and tonight I plan to finish that squad, assemble the captain and start the Pred (which I bought on the way home from work yesterday). That should give me enough time to finish up on Friday and Saturday night. Then next week, I'll start putting them under the brush.

Crimson Fists Reborn - The Plan

Yesterday on my lunch hour, I sat down and scribbled out a 500-point list. Will I play the list? Probably not, but for the sake of my sanity and to maintain a level of organization, I'm going to go into that way. I'm also going to set deadlines for the various stages in the project.

Here's the list:

* Captain (power fist, bolter, hellfire rounds)
* Tactical Squad “Antheo” [10] power fist, missile launcher, flamer
* Tactical Squad “Haleos” [5] plasma pistol
* Predator “Righteous Blade” – autocannon, h/k missile, heavy bolter sponsons

Total = 495

I bought a Tactical Squad box on the way home yesterday and started working on Squad Antheo last night. The captain will be the limited edition veteran w/ bolter and power fist. I have enough bits to assembled Squad Haleos but I will have to pick up a Predator. My goal is to finish building the list by Saturday night. I'll start posting regular pics of my progress. I'm sure everyone's sick of looking at the GW art. I know I am.

Back by Popular Demand

Okay, everyone's comments have motivated me enough to start anew. I'm going to start another Crimson Fist army. But this time, so as not to overwhelm myself, I'll dothis Escalation style. 500 points at a time AND not get ahead of myself. I'll sketch out an army list and then go shopping.

I'll use Planetstrike as a guide. But Kantor's remaining forces as outlined in the book were the remnants of the chapter after the destruction of their Fortress Monastery but before the Battle of New Rynn City. I wonder what the chapter's numbers were after the battle. Anyone know?

Anyway, off to create a goal sheet and army list.

I Miss my Crimson Fists

I've been flipping through the Planetstrike book every couple of nights, reading a little here and there. But I always keeping going back to the Crimson Fist layout in the book. I've been feeling a little down without my Fists. I've been using my Raptor Legion, but painting them and building them just doesn't seem as much fun.

I'm really thinking about starting up another Crimson Fist force. I enjoyed painting them. They were easy. Maybe I'll start one up again later this summer. What do you folks think?

Battle Report - Archives: Raptors v. Tau

Here's some pics of my Raptors battling it out with a Tau Cadre. I got together with a buddy (GW staffer) to throw down for a 2,000 point battle. My Raptors, after a cautious advance ended up coming out on the bottom of this scrap.

The highlights for my force were taking out the enemy commander after he jumped in behind my lines and wasted my Predator in the 2nd turn and my Terminator Squad teleporting in and opening up on a squad of Fire Warriors that had just disembarked. But all in all it was a fun game. Here are some pics.

Planetstrike has arrived!

I picked up my copy of Planetstrike at the Bunker on Saturday. I also had enough money left over on the gift card that I got from my folks, so I grabbed an Imperial Bastion and a box of the Aegis Defense Lines. The staffers were in the process of working on some of the kits so I took the liberty of checking them out. The assembled models are pretty cool and the defense line are easy to deal with. Some black prime and dry brush and you're all set (if you're the no frills paineter like me). But what I DO like the most about GW's latest series of kits is that I can once again relive me childhood and repel countless alien incursion behind my fortified bunkers and defense lines. Payday I'm heading out to pick the landing pad and some more defense lines.

As for the book, all I had time for this weekend was to thumb through the artwork - but the best part was detailed army list that can be used in re-enacting the battle for Rynn's World. While I like the detailed history of the Ultramarines, it was really great to see another chapter highlighted for a change. I really miss my Crimson Fists now that I've seen the books. Who knows maybe some day I'll start them again.

Detective Friday

Alexondra Lee from Special Unit 2 - a scifi/cop show back in 2001. Cheesy series, but she was easy on the eyes.
